Supporting Dairy Farmers

By working closely with our farming partners, we're supporting practices that help them care for our cows, strengthen our farms and continue producing high-quality milk for the years ahead. Danone works directly with around 300 dairy farms in Upper Normandy, near the factory where Danone Skyr is made to support the transition to regenerative farming.

Every farm is different, which is why we work alongside farmers to identify practical actions that make sense for their herds and their businesses.

Our programmes focus on areas that are important to dairy farming, including:

  • Cow health and welfare
  • Feed and nutrition
  • Soil management
  • Biodiversity on and around farms
  • Efficient use of resources
  • Farm resilience and long-term viability

The aim is simple: helping farmers continue producing quality milk while supporting healthy herds, thriving farms and regenerating nature.

Working Together on Farm-Level Improvements

Through our programme, around 98% of supplying farms are measuring their carbon footprint and around half are already implementing action plans with expert support, focusing on practical improvements tailored to their individual farms.

Practical Actions Led by Farmers

Many of the improvements being explored are designed to support both farm performance and herd management.

For example:

  • Supporting herd nutrition. Some farmers are participating in feed projects using Omega-3-rich linseed as part of cow diets. Research suggests that this can help reduce methane emissions from dairy cows while supporting herd nutrition and farm performance.*
  • Encouraging biodiversity. Hedgerow planting projects are helping create habitats for wildlife while contributing to more resilient farm landscapes.

We believe high-quality yoghurt starts with strong farming partnerships. By working directly with farmers, sharing expertise and supporting practical on-farm improvements, we're helping build a resilient milk supply for the future.
